Choosing graphics for your real estate website

Apart from the text of your website, graphics for your real estate website are one of the most important design elements.  Having a strong graphical element can add power, weight and importance to your real estate website.  Conversely, a poor choice of graphics for your real estate website can be as damaging as poor spelling and grammar.

When choosing graphics for your real estate website there several things to  consider.

1. Who is your audience and what kind of visual esthetic are they used to seeing?  For example, the graphics for your real estate website will be different for baby boomers and generation X.

2. What message are your trying to convey with your real estate website graphics? Are you looking to portray upwardly mobile success? Bargain hunting? Value for money? Long term investment?  All of the above can easily be shown with the graphics for your real estate website.

3. Where will the graphics for your real estate website go on your page?  You may want to look at formatting such as landscape vs. portrait when choosing graphics for your real estate website.

4. What size will the graphics be on your real estate website?  This is an important point. When looking at size, look both at the physical dimensions, i.e. the physical display size of the graphics for your real estate website, as well as the file size of each image.  For example, a particular graphic for your real estate website may be 1” by 1” but shot as such a high resolution that its file size is prohibitive for the web.  In comparison, another graphic for your real estate website, might be 5” by 7” and only be a couple hundred bytes.

These are all things you need to consider when choosing the graphics for your real estate website.  Don’t be afraid to experiment and try different things.  Ultimately, you will be able to do more with the graphics for your real estate website if you feel confident in the images that you are choosing.
